Rahm Emanuel avoids the heat of the Chicago Bar Association's kitchen, Steinberg writes

chicago.suntimes.com: “Most politicians like to be skewered at some point,” said attorney Jeffrey M. Marks, producer of the Chicago Bar Association annual satiric revue, which opens Thursday. “They may not be happy how we skewer them.”

Marks said most people figure they’ve made it if they’re being made fun of. “We get senators, representatives, judges . . . .”

I love that this exists. I love that lawyers are willing to make what seems like a complete fool of themselves when they are in a profession so tied to appearances and networking. They've also picked some great subject material. Politicians are the easiest to make fun of and the easiest to make angry. The Capitol Steps, the most well known political comedy troupe in my area, is made up of former and current Capitol staffers that make fun of senator and congressmen. And man, are they funny. I also love the punny-ness of these shows. Intelligent comedy is great, but I cannot resist a terrible pun. I also remember election night last year. After the election news was the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Like the Chicago Bar Association, Colbert had to rewrite his entire show in basically ten minutes. The first ten minutes of the show was pretty much Colbert crying at his desk. It was a dark night for all of us.
