While not really an article the tips outlined here are actually quite good. As an artist in my years of undergraduate schooling I took a class on the business of self-promotion and marketing of my art, something I was rather shy about. The top pieces of advice we were given over and over by many successful artists in the field was to utilize hash-tags and to post every day. These two things alone can utilize social media in a way that does a lot of the work for you and for very little cost. It is interesting to me the way in which marketing is evolving to be so carried by influencers on social media as opposed to the traditional marketing methods. Influencers have in a way that sometimes I personally have a hard time comprehending become such a huge part of media and the things that people chose to pay attention to and ultimately purchase. It is also interesting how Instagram stories have become such a huge part of drawing people in.

These are some really helpful tips and fun facts about marketing brands on Instagram. I don’t know how much of these can be applied to promoting your personal brand and I also don’t know if it’s necessary or if we should utilize social media to promote our brand. Posting on Instagram is not yet considered professional and maybe it’s just me, if my boss judges who I am by stalking my social media account I would be creeped out. However, I do believe theaters should definitely use some of the tips in the articles to reach to more people/potential patrons. Like partnering with more popular official accounts to promote your season, definitely leveraging the power of hashtags because you can never underestimate the power of trending, and also very importantly responding to comments to be more down-to-earth and approachable. Instagram story is also a perfect tool for theaters to show audiences some sneak peeks of the backstage activities.

This articles information on actual tips for marketing on instagram aren't to interesting but the facts on brands and how they reach their audiences through instagram are quiet interesting. This new idea in the past couple of years about free marketing an marketing yourself through yourself is really interesting especially as an artist trying to get their work out in the world for others to see and "discover" on instagram and other social media platforms. I know from personal experience with friends in the fashion industry that they use instagram and facebook to try and boost events and new ideas in small batches by using instagram as a communication method with their audience such as displaying events such as pop up shops or new products. I just wonder exactly how effective that is for these larger scale companies I mean I obviously see it with the like of the Jenners and kardsashians with their successes promoting their clothing brands through instagram and snap chat. I wonder where "free" marketing will go as we move into the future.

Many companies are actively utilizing Instagram as another channel for marketing and create exclusive marketing materials for Instagram as well. When implemented right, many of these tactics are very useful (I know because I get hooked by them all the time). I also believe that theaters can most certainly benefit from using Instagram to draw in more of the younger population. It is because Instagram has the casual vibe that is perfect for short backstage clips and rehearsal clips without revealing too much. It could be especially helpful if the form of performance is perceived as 'high culture' like Opera and ballet because the casual approach can make it feel friendly and accessible. Although it will have to be negotiated and approved by the unions involved, I believe the power of Instagram has grown big enough that the effort must be worth trying. But I wouldn't say it as 'no budget' method because most of the materials on Instagram are curated.
