Fear the Fremont Street: Triotech
InPark Magazine: Leading up to the opening of the new Fear the Walking Dead Survival attraction, the most common question seemed to be: What exactly is it?
It was a fair question. Prior to its unveiling, developers and owners were tight-lipped about what was hidden inside the 10,000 square foot space on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Now that it’s open, the challenge lies in accurately describing it.

The Walking Dead series as a whole is phenomenal in my opinion. I love the shows and it has such a unique vibe to it that other shows don’t have. It really creates the world and allows you to immerse yourself in the show. With that, it makes sense for a lot of people, including myself, to want an escape room or other immersive experience to actually become a part in this world that is so well developed. The universal horror nights mazes were an attempt at such but I found the walking dead maze to be disappointing in actuality. It just didn’t have that immersed feel that they are aiming for in this new attraction. I really hope it works out and I really want to see it at some point. The technology and performance also remind me of the universal tram ride when they set it up for Kong as they had updated the technology from what was previously there. However, you were stuck on a tram so not much immersion there either. Still a cool experience and a great way to gauge how this might turn out. Because of that ride, I am really excited to see this attraction especially because I know they can make it truly immersive and create that feeling they not only want to create but created in the shows as well.
As a fan of the Walking Dead world, this sounds like a great experience. I always think it’s interesting when attractions like this blur the line between theater and attraction. Because, there are people giving performances for the sake of an audience experience. Isn’t that theater? I think it’s really interesting the way that they structured the experience. I can understand why picking situations and making sure that it flows overall would be particularly difficult. The Walking Dead world is so vast and beloved, that if I were the designer I would certainly want to do the show justice. But there is also the struggle of figuring out, which situations really encapsulate the world and make the audience feel what the characters feel. Considering how they made this als makes me wonder, about the makeup and tech used to bring this world to life. If I could I would definitely go.
