I love how in our industry there are companies that really find their niche and do it perfectly. Tribe Inc. has mastered the superbowl halftime show, which is this super unique genre of performance where everything needs to be loaded in, performed, and loaded out in twenty-six minutes and needs to be optimized for the TV event with the largest viewership across the country, as well as for audiences in the stadium. The solution of having people dressed as grass is so cool and so funny to me. When I watched the half time show, I noticed the grass people going on to the field, and I thought they were going to dance and come alive. But after realizing they were not going to do that, and that they had people dress up as grass to make load in/out faster and more efficient, I thought a lot about the unique constraints of the half time show. We would never have scenery be just standing actors in a stage show - the show is too long and we don’t want to pay all those people, and we don’t need to get in and out that fast. However, the halftime show does use many techniques from stage theater all the same.

I was very impressed with the half time show Bad Bunny put on. Although I know absolutely zero spanish, it was an extremely exciting and energetic show! Much better than “I just want to kiss my fish,” but let’s not get political. There were so many little details, including a plant holding a Mexican flag that just made this show awesome to see, especially in the time we are currently in. Seeing some of the behind the scenes the crew were taking with their meta glasses were extremely cool as well, they had about 10 minutes for both set up and strike, and got the entire set out in that time and made it safe. This set was about what you would expect for a broadway set as well, and weighed a lot. The drafting this article showed was very interesting to see the behind the scenes as well. I am extremely impressed with the entirety of this half time show, and I am very excited to see how someone tops it next year!

Bad Bunny’s halftime show was both very impressive tech-wise and very poignant. Every single prop, set, and person had a reason and symbolism for being there. The fact that there were 9,852 different pyrotechnics is mind-blowing. That is a lot of safety things to manage. I love how they were able to give Bad Bunny and his team the design they were looking for with the grass in such an interesting way. I would never have thought to put people in the grass costumes for a fast set up and break down and to avoid having more wheels and carts on the field. I also appreciate how he had a real couple get married during his set. He clearly loves his fans and wants to be able to provide for them as they have provided for him. I enjoyed seeing the schematics for the show provided in the article.
