Darren Aronofsky Is Teaming Up With…AI?

The Mary Sue: If you needed more convincing that Darren Aronofsky is only in the movie business to make people uncomfortable, then buckle up, because his next spectacle once again pushes the envelope in a way nobody asked for: A web series about the Revolutionary War, produced with AI.

I would completely agree with the premise of this article, that generative artificial intelligence is not productive towards society, and should not be encouraged. I am honestly glad that the reviews of this series are so brutally bad, because we need to be speaking out about the overuse of AI. Many influential companies and people are pushing really hard on these tools, because they have invested so much money into them and staked their funds on it. From a technical perspective, it is impressive that thai team was able to make something that was at all viewable using primarily AI tools. That being said, I think that the entire idea of using AI to create art is problematic. As an engineer, my opinion is that technology should be developed to make human life better and do the tasks that humans do not want to do. The problem with making AI art, is that rather than replacing the things we don’t want to do, it replaces that passionate work that artists do want to do.
