‘Fallout' costume designer Amy Westcott: ‘It was about staying away from the bleak, apocalyptic feeling'

www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment: “Fallout” costume designer Amy Westcott found about her first Emmy nomination through three letters. “My assistant on ‘Fallout’ texted me and he just wrote, ‘OMG!’ And I knew from that text that that was why he was freaking out, so it was exciting,” she tells Gold Derby (watch above). “No other context. It was just O-M-G-G-G-G-G!”

Designing off of a world that was pre-created and has been interacted with on a much more intimate level than just viewing is a new problem we as an industry are walking into. It creates a sense of ownership that is not had when going to a movie, live performance or book. I believe that with the influx of video games and their place in our world we as designers and technicians are going to have to be aware of this detail. Due to the reality that our audiences have been viewing what these clothes look like, and the purpose they serve in the context to the world. It requires the designer to work towards that collective vision of the world. Not only the context of this script/production. We have to take more into account in how to make that virtual world real and authentic within the given circumstances provided from the previous versions of the game/story.
