Disney Cruise Line Announces Fleet Expansion and All-New, Broadway-Caliber Stage Show
Disney Parks Blog: Your favorite Greek gladiator will take center stage onboard the Disney Destiny in an all-new, Broadway-style show, “Disney Hercules” when the ship sets sail in November 2025.
This lively retelling of the popular Walt Disney Animation Studios film will feature the iconic music and larger-than-life characters we all know and love from the original movie, presented in an all-new way.

Having shows that are on a Broadway scale able to be produced in the middle of the ocean sound absolutely insane. However, cruises have become such an enormous industry and cruise ship theater has grown to be just as massive. It is almost unreal to think that this kind of production could be produced on a ship and it makes me think about all the additional factors that must be considered when putting together a show at sea instead of on land. On top of the simple issue of space being much more limited, there are so many other (literally) moving parts that need to be addressed including safety, emergency plans, and even just how a ship’s rocking could affect an actor’s performance. With an industry that is clearly growing at such a rapid pace, I can only imagine what kind of cruise ship entertainment we will see in the future and how it will interact with the traditional theater world.
I'm a self-proclaimed Disney Cruise Line enthusiast. I've seen basically every show on basically every ship and I've been going on their cruises since I was literally in the womb. this new announcement was definitely expected, and quite honestly unimpressive: but not something I'm necessarily disappointed for. I am interested to see a retelling of hercules, as it's my favorite Disney movie, and as someone who absolutely hated the paper mill Playhouse version. I am also interested to see how they revamp Moana and how it comes into play in seeming throughout the rest of the ship since it is so focused on the theme of water. My one bone to pick with many of these new Cruise Line shows is the Reliance on LED screens. I remember when I was younger all of the uses of practical set pieces that were so exciting and inventive and now more and more times I'm seeing the convenience of the LED wall utilized in place of real effects.
