The Stranger: Her experience in the local fashion scene has consistently colored outside the lines, incorporating elements like 3D-printed sculptures, cosplay inspirations, and programmable, LED-loaded electronics. The results make for a dazzling Instagram finger-swipe of colors, lights, and forms.

These designs that Wong is making challenge my view of space wear in media and practice by showing that function isn't everything and fashion can prevail even in futuristic scenarios. Even breaking the barrier between performance and fashion while not a revolutionary concept proves to the audience that Wong isn’t afraid to be different, challenge norms, and use her creativity. I think that the use of visual storytelling through art provides a deeper level to Wong’s art than what viewers would originally take at face value. I also appreciate her usage of cosplay techniques and ideologies. Often people can do more than they think by using skills from other aspects of their lives. I think NASA should reach out to Wong to have her reimagine what their space suits can look like. I think astronauts in fun florals and contrasting colors would be much more inspiring to young children than the drab and boring spacesuits we see today.
Many new mainstream shows and media are remakes and sequels so it's always rejuvenating to read about classic tropes such as space being done in interesting and creative ways. Space specifically almost always has a singular trope written all over with the white space suits and other world life. Sophy Wong's designs take from some of the original concepts and ideas of space while taking new technologies and innovation in fashion to bring a new light to the astronomical trope. The specific use of 3D printed attachments was especially interesting to me because I have seen many different attempts and slight uses of the medium but never enough that it creates a connecting line through an entire work. The use of a unique medium to create connection I feel almost helps an audience accept and acknowledge the creativity and new uses of 3D printed attachments. Overall the use of a unique medium helps build on an overused trope and build connection through the work.
