Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su hosts “Making Equity Real” panel with Local 22 member Frank Brown, Jr. and visits Local 720 Training Center

IATSE: When President Biden nominated Julie Su to serve as Secretary of Labor following the departure of Secretary Marty J. Walsh last year, The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) joined worker advocates across the country in praising the nomination of our close ally. We highlighted her extraordinary track record of protecting workers’ rights, pioneering job creation, combatting wage theft, and asserted that she would be a champion for working families as the head of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). She has demonstrated that time and again since assuming the role.

It’s really relieving to see someone with experience and a prior relationship with unions like IATSE. Especially Julie Su as she is someone who has done a lot of advocacy for worker’s rights in the past and is very likely to continue doing so with her new position. I also believe she will eventually become a permanent addition instead of . For a long time I have always enjoy reading testimonials from people soon after joining a union and how significantly it helps their working conditions and benefits. It’s also really good to hear more and more people joining unions because it just means stronger unions which is always good. I do really look forward to seeing what Julie Su does going forward for workers’ rights. From what they have done so far it seems like it’ll be all good things. Though I’m tentative to be too optimistic, I am hopeful.
