This article gave an interesting perspective into why a designer might specif certain lights for a certain show. It was clear that this designer knew the Robe product line well, and that that was a big factor in their decision to use Robe products in their show. Learning how to use new and unfamiliar fixtures is something that takes time to figure out, and that is not necessarily time that a designer has during a quickly moving tech process. This is why it can be helpful for rental houses to allow designers to see fixtures outside of productions, so that they can get to know them and be more likely to actually spec them for a show. I did find it surprising that this production was using Avo, as I would have assumed that it was going to be using MA, given how many moving lights it had and how high the budget of a production it seemed to be.
