Why the Fight Over Drag Is a Struggle for Us All
AMERICAN THEATRE: Maxi Glamour stepped forward, impeccably dressed in a long maroon jacket, their signature blue makeup framed by a complementary wig and an oversized hat adorned with flowers. They were there, along with other drag performers. to testify in opposition to the Missouri legislature’s proposed drag bans. These hearings on four bills—two targeting trans youth by limiting their participation in sports and their ability to receive medical care until age 18, and two focusing on banning drag performances—had already featured several hours of discussion, with not a single person testifying in support of the drag bans.
