Quantum Theatre Concludes Its 2022-2023 Season with Jennifer Chang's Fresh Take on Faust's 'The Devil Is A Lie,' opening April 7th

onstagepittsburgh.com: The audience has been invited to celebrate the mind-blowing success of George Fast’s company Voltaire (highest earning quarter ever!) Maybe the invited ‘shareholders’ will get a sneak peek at some new technology and help influence the rise of this company headed for the Forbes list.

I will begin by saying that in all honesty I think the demonization of capitalism as a theme within more experimental theatre to be rather trite and tired and I find it unfortunate that this show is likely to fall into the same one note trap. However, I will say that despite my thematic gripe with this show, it looks like an absolutely entertaining and interesting show, especially considering the interactive and experimental aspect of the show. I think that the classic story of Faust and the exploration of hell will lend itself to this deeper dive into morality and ethics due to how well known the story already is. I definitely think that a high scale party for business executives and investors is definitely a very fun design concept as well as directorial concept. I think that Sound Design could definitely be the backbone of a show of this nature that naturally lends itself to sound through the use of the DJ as a major character.
