'Into the Woods' wins Best Musical Theater Album — plus more Broadway Grammy wins
Broadway News: The 65th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, took place in Los Angeles on Feb. 5. Tony Award winners and former Tony hosts James Corden and Billy Crystal served as presenters, as did Viola Davis, who earned EGOT status during the event with her Grammy win for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording.

I completely forgot that the Grammys were happening and so I’m disappointed that I didn’t have time to watch it. However, I am a little disappointed that Into the Woods won best musical theatre album, when there were many different shows that could have won that we nominated in that category. I love Into the Woods but I find that it is often overdone and overplayed, especially in theatre. The storyline and musical composition are beautiful, but to me, it felt like a shoe-in. In my opinion, A Strange Loop should have won the Grammy because of how new and exciting the soundtrack is. A Strange Loop brought a new sound to Broadway and I wish the Grammys had recognized that fact. However, I am still happy for the cast of Into the Woods to have received this award, especially with such talented principal singers, like Phillipa Soo and Sara Bareilles. I hope that the award committees in the future will focus more on the shows that create change, and less so on the classic shows that live on Broadway.
