Phillipa Soo and Jenn Colella on 'Suffs' and 'Hamilton'
Variety: On a superficial level, the new musical “Suffs” looks a lot like “Hamilton” — so much so that “some people are calling it ‘Hermilton,'” said one of the show’s stars, Jenn Colella, on the new episode of Variety‘s theater podcast, Stagecraft, alongside co-star (and “Hamilton” alum) Phillipa Soo.

I knew nothing about this musical before reading this article. So, if you’re on the same boat as me, here’s a quick rundown: 'Suffs' is a musical on the fight behind the Women’s Suffrage Movement. It stars Phillipa Soo (from ‘Hamilton’) and Jenn Colella (from ‘Come From Away’). While few, Joan Marcus’s pictures of the show look incredible. From the costumes, to the lighting, to the set, the production seems to be beautifully constructed. What’s even more thrilling is knowing the cast features Philipa Soo and Nikki M. James, two actresses of color. Not only that but the ensemble is also predominantly of color.
On another note, the comment on ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Come From Away’ being “the best-rehearsed film you’ve ever seen” sparked my interest. Both Philipa Soo and Jenn Colella have voiced their general agreeance with this trend. It very much allows for a higher audience count, providing greater accessibility. I guess I’m just excited at the possibility of ‘Suffs' being recorded.
