The sound design in this arena is seriously impressive. Beyond just the purely utilitarian, how does it sound aspect of the desig, visually it looks beautiful. To be honest just the images that were in this article reminded me a lot of the arena that was used for Live Aid. I am seriously impressed with how intricate and well designed the arena’s sound system is. I didn’t notice at first but the fact that there are two identical stages right next to each other makes the sound system even more impressive as they were able to balance the sound across the entire arena for each of the stages. Additionally, the fact that that there were eleven bands that would switch in and out of both of the stages for the concert must have been a serious task for the sound mixer even though I am certain they used Dante’s presets for each band that were established during mic check.
Without even knowing what the title of this article meant, I was intrigued because of the description. The first thing I noticed about the reading that really intrigued me was that this “Dome” has a 52,000 capacity with is unfathomable in my mind. Also, the fact the dome has a retractable roof really sets it apart and makes the space makes sense as a multi-purpose sports arena and concert venue. As it relates to sound designers in this space, I bet it must be an incredible challenge to fill such a large and empty environment without it sounding echoey for the patrons towards the back of the venue. I have never heard of the company “Outline” but from the scale of the event and how many Outline products were used, I am going to assume that they are very reliable and effective loudspeakers. Especially, as the audio engineer stated the Outline OpenArray 3D was very effective, so it seems like the company as a whole is very reliable and of high quality.
