TicketNetwork Celebrates Green Initiative Milestones on Earth Day

www.ticketnews.com: After less than three years of operation, TicketNetwork says a rooftop solar array at the company’s Connecticut headquarters has already generated enough electricity to equal the planting of over 50,000 trees and saving over 4,600 barrels of oil. The solar array is the centerpiece of the ticket resale marketplace’s Green Initiative, which also features an animal sanctuary, walking trails, and farming operation that involves local youth programs.

This is my first time hearing about the Ticket Network Green Initiative, and I think that the strides that this entertainment based company is making is quite respectable. With how wasteful and un-eco friendly the entertainment industry is notorious for, I am always looking for companies that are taking responsibility for their carbon footprint. I also think that it is good publicity for them doing this during Earth Day. At first I was a bit scared because I thought that this might just be another company trying to prove or show that they are ecofriendly by doing something like this just during Earth Day, but after learning that this is a project that has been in the works consistently for a while, and that they have generated 4.47 million kWh of electricity since their initiative is very impressive. It also says a lot about their dedication they have to their missions, giving more credibility to Ticket Network as a whole.

As someone who is environmentally cautious, I find the concept of solar power to be a no brainer when it comes to trying to save nonrenewable resources. As mentioned in this article, not only does the solar array make a positive impact on the environment, but also is financially adequate. After reading this article and knowing about solar energy through the home I grew up in, I wonder how we can incorporate this into the entertainment industry. The entertainment industry uses an immense amount of electricity across all subdivisions, theatre, concerts, live tv, films, etc. as well as paper (even though more tickets are digital, the amount of scripts printed for the theatre industry adds up). Therefore, being able to have the entertainment cut back on practices that harm the environment with the switch over to solar power will make such an incredible dent on this step toward more sustainable practices.
