Take a Look at Portraits of Broadway's Company With Costume Designer Bunny Christie

Playbill: Did you know that Claybourne Elder's underwear in Company has an airline logo on them? That's just one of many details in the costume design by Bunny Christie for the new gender-swapped Broadway revival currently running at the Bernard J. Jacobs Theatre. The company of Company recently gathered for a studio portrait session to capture and show off the looks, and Christie let Playbill in on a few of her ideas behind some of the costumes and how they came to be, including some of those fun details like airline underpants.

I love the costumes highlighted from Broadways “Company”. Bunny Christie has a good eye for costumes, because while there is slight randomness to the looks, they scream the personality of each character while also keeping a semi-cohesive collar pallet. Each costume also has a mild playful almost comedic look to it, which I love. I specifically love that they created their airline logo for one of the characters' outfits, as that’s such a fun little addition that only heightens the show's detail and overall look. The costume design within the show almost reminds me of an SNL sketch, in the way it plays with the looks of the characters. Even without knowing anything about the show, I began thinking about who each character is and what their personality is like. This type of expression isn’t always easy to do especially in period pieces as you must remain true to the period while also expressing a specific character, but as this is set in the current day, I feel as though there were more options to play around with how people were going to be dressed within the show.
