I was really interested in how To Kill a Mockingbird’s tour was going to turn out, especially as it moves into communities where the book has become an educational staple. I agree that the play puts an interesting spin on the source material - the scenes jump around from place to place in a non-linear fashion, often returning to the courthouse. Moreover, it does a wonderful job of reshuffling the most important moments of the novel into a well-paced sequence that highlights the main tensions of respect, innocence, and racial injustice, all the while showcasing the nuances of these issues. The non-linear timeline allows for contrasting scenes to be pitted right up against each other, enabling the audience to see many sides of the complicated narrative. I also like how the play utilizes three child narrators, portrayed by adults: Scout, her brother Jem, and their friend Dill Harris. It emphasizes the original intent of the novel, to show this intense situation through a child’s eyes.

I had no idea that this production was set to go on tour! The First National Tour has begun for the history-making production of To Kill a Mockingbird, Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin's new play, directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher and based on Harper Lee's classic novel. I had the extreme pleasure of watching the show the summer of 2019 at the Shubert Theatre and was able to see Jeff Daniels play the classic role of Atticus Finch. The play was so compelling, even with the whole controversy regarding Harper Lee’s estate and Aaron Sorkin. The Scenic Design was some of the best I’ve seen in my lifetime. One of the things I’m most curious about when a production goes on tour is how they are able to make changes to the design of the set to have it be able to travel all over the country. I’m excited to see if this tour comes close to these parts to see if I could Mabye watch the play again. Hopefully it gets received well by audiences all over the country
