Meta Plans To Launch True AR Glasses In 2024
The Verge: Facebook, now Meta, has repeatedly publicly confirmed it’s working on augmented reality glasses since as far back as 2016. In late 2019 the company described a product launch as “a few years out”.
Korean news outlet The Electronic Times claimed Samsung will manufacture a custom tracking chip for Meta’s glasses, and The Information reported Meta has agreed to buy several years of the entire output of AR microLED display maker Plessey.

I hate everything about this. Technology is obviously something we should be willing to embrace but I just don't trust corporations enough to be willing to follow this type of tech to it's logical conclusion, which would be cybernetics.
You see it horrifyingly frequently (enough for my tastes, anyway), where startup companies make things like bionic eyes, people adopt the tech, and after a few years or maybe even sooner the company goes under and....yeah now your bionic eye that you had surgically installed into your skull is unsupported. Good luck getting it dangerously removed.
Obviously that is a far cry from what is being discussed in the article. But idk, I feel that eventually the tech of bionic eyes and AR glasses will collide. Someone is going to voluntarily give up their organic eye(s?) at some point in the future in favor of bionics.
I want technology to improve the quality of life of people.
