August Wilson: The Writer’s Landscape immerses audiences in life of legendary playwright

Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: For all the works dedicated to the legacy of late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson — the productions, the award-winning film adaptations, the entire arts and cultural center named after him — he had yet to receive an exhibition. Now, the celebrated writer of plays about Black life in Pittsburgh has, for the first time, a permanent public display paying tribute to his life and work.

This sounds like an amazing exhibit that I will definitely be going to see. Being a Pittsburgh native and a theatre student I have read many of August Wilson's plays, and I am a little bit shocked that there is only now an exhibit to his life and work. I love the idea of the "three act" exhibit. The three spaces seem like a really good way to break up the huge collection of artifacts into bite sized pieces that effectively and beautifully tell the story of Wilson's life. I am also really glad that the project blew up way further than the intended small gallery. I think that doing anything less than a full interactive exhibit for August Wilson would be a gross underrepresentation of his full life and career. It takes more than a small gallery to fully showcase the intent and message behind his work, not to mention his whole life.
