I think it’s great that this article had such a variety of types of theatre books, memoirs, guides and even children’s books. I think that the Jagged Little Pill novel is so interesting because to see the journey of that media is so strange. It started out as an album then a musical and now it is a novel which is so interesting. I know they also did something similar with the Dear Evan Hansen Musical, it also became a novel. I think it’s wild that the instant that something becomes a hit they immediately try to put it into so many kinds of mediums. It also was great to see children’s and young adult books in the line up. I think that is such a great way for young people to get into theatre. It was also interesting to see the books written by some broadway stars or having the stars as characters. I just think its a really great idea to have childrens books about theatre.

I’ve been wanting to read more about theatre for a long time and didn’t know where to start, so this article with a list of books came perfectly timed for me. As I went through the list, I think the selections all look interesting and I appreciate that it features a variety of genres and areas. I’m personally more drawn to The Jukebox Musical: An Interpretive History because I’ve noticed a rising trend of jukebox musicals and considering that it’s so new to the industry, I think it would be very helpful to learn a bit more about the background of it. Another book that caught my attention is So You Want to Sing Musical Theatre: A Guide to Performers. Although I’m not a singer, let alone a MT, I’ve always been amazed by how well they can sing and it’s definitely a skill I wish I had. And it seems that this book will touch on many different aspects of a performance, even the audio equipment and microphones used.

Honestly, this list of books had something for everyone and that made me happy. It put a couple of books on my to be read list too. It's exciting because now, people are accepting more than just an actor's side of theatre in the world, y'know> Like, finally people are acknowledging the different aspects of theatre. The critical theory and the book on COVID are the two I'm most interested in reading rather than the memoirs or the one's about the different eras. Actually, I might be interested in that book Offstage Observations where they go and talk about the heyday of theatre and how it was once about having a fun night on the town by getting dressed up and going to a show. It's really cool to think about how far we've come as an industry and where it's going to go whenever we graduate Must by more books.
