Ensemble Theatre inaugurates Tracey Trinder Playwright’s Award for women writers

limelightmagazine.com.au: On the opening night of Killing Katie, before the clamorous applause had stopped, and before the echoes of laughter had a chance to slip away into the night, Mark Kilmurry did something he doesn’t usually do. He got up on stage.

I’m sorry to hear Tracey Trinder passed away before she was able to see the opening night of her first play. I wish the article had mentioned that Trinder was an experienced screenwriter. I love that this award will not only provide funding for new playwrights, but also put on the show which guarantees their production will make it onstage. Based on comments from some of the artists Trinder worked with, she was an incredibly kind person and a pleasure to work with as she was always open to new ideas. I know often I am not as open to ideas from co-workers because I see it as a criticism of my ideas rather than focusing on what is best for the situation. I think it’s so important to value empathy in such a collaborative environment. I read more about Trinder, and found that she got the inspiration for this play from an interaction she had at a book club and I think that's hilarious.
