What The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Gets Right About Broadway in Season 4

New York Theater: Broadway figures in the fourth season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” as it did in the third season in 2019, when I wrote about all the things that this TV series on Amazon Prime got wrong about Broadway. This time around, I’m going to focus on what it got right. And that’s really only one thing, but it’s big.

Personally, I have never seen The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, despite being recommended it many times. The person I am told this by the most is my mom, who is OBSESSED with the show. She raves about all of it but specifically likes to bring up the production's design and quality. She tells me about the large fully built historically relevant sets, which helps not only ground the show in its time period but also elevates the overall aesthetic. But even more exciting and impressive to her, and brought up the most, are the costumes. I've already sent this article to her. Overall, what my mom has expressed she loves the most is the world these costumes and sets are building for the production. The world feels real, tangible, and understandable. It is believable. The article echos this message, as it highlights the importance of accurately portraying a time period, and the immersion it can build for a production.

Ah I absolutely love the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I used to not understand the hype but I’ve spent all of spring break binge watching it. Although I have to say, right before this I was on season 4 episode 1 and this did contain some spoilers. I don’t quite understand the point of this article. Primarily what is said is that it gets broadway wrong, but most of the cast has been on broadway. It makes no statement or opinion on why that is, simply listing notable members of the cast. It is true, the cast is truly star studded. The author says they will focus on what they got right but again, doesn’t really do so, they do state that many playwrights came from the catskills. Much of the piece is background about what has happened and as I’ve stated, listing cast. I knew about Jane Lynch, but I actually wasn’t aware about many of the rest so that at least was insightful.
