How To Find a Mentor And Make The Relationship Work

www.lifehack.org: One of the fastest shortcuts to success in anything is to learn from someone who’s already done it. No matter what your goals are—from starting a business to inventing a new technology, from becoming a better public speaker to getting a promotion—there’s someone out there who’s done some variation of it. They’ve already faced the trials and tribulations of that journey. They have the connections. They’ve gained experience and wisdom. They know the pitfalls and challenges, and they know the shortcuts. If you want a higher chance of success, find a mentor.

In High school, I naturally found a mentor, the Technical Director of my school's program, and I think that having someone to talk to about my goals and keep me on track really helped me accomplish a lot. I don't talk to him as much as I used to becasue my goals have shifted and he is working with some other students now so I try to be on the lookout for mentors and find inspirational people that would be willing to give me information and advice on what I want to do. Currently, I am still figuring out what I want to do so I am really trying as much as I can, meet as many people as a can, and find my interests and inspiration. I have reached out to a few people or the past few months about general advice they might give and have gotten a few responses. Currently, in the pandemic, it hasn't been the greatest time to look for mentors and connect with new people but hopefully, over time I will naturally find a mentor.
