This Concrete Pavement is Talking to Me
by Anagram | Mar, 2021 | Immerse: Augmented Reality is the name given to a layering technique enabled by recent technological developments. It is a broad and bizarre umbrella — encompassing Snapchat lenses that turn your head into a cucumber, Instagram filters that perfect your imperfect skin and immersive audio “grime rap operas” triggered by your movement through a place.

I think the article made an excellent point by stating that if the real experience is taking place in the real place, you do not necessarily call it “fiction” anymore. The first time I experienced augment reality was when I was in elementary school, through the special camera feature on Nintendo 3DS. Ever since, I have been a huge fan of AR, and is glad to see how there is a rising interest towards the field. There is certainly a difference between watching the recorded live performance (which would normally have live audience) and watching the live performance that was intentionally designed to be shown through the screen. What AR does, I think, is adding another layer of (1 to 1) connection between the material and the viewer, because AR users can often directly engage with AR programs. I do think the features that are used in AR games right now could certainly be applied to the theatrical performances as well, and this could perhaps open the new gate for individually immersive theater.
