Review Roundup: What Did The Critics Think of HELLO, DOLLY! at the Pantages?
www.broadwayworld.com: Here she comes, world! The first national tour of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival of Hello, Dolly!, starring Tony Award winner Betty Buckley, launched earlier this year from the Stanley Theatre in Utica, New York. The show just opened at LA's Hollywood Pantages Theatre.

Reading about how many people seem to love "Hellow, Dolly!" at the Pantages makes me miss being in Los Angeles just a little bit more. For years, my family was gotten season tickets to places like the Pantages, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Geffen. I grew up in the Los Angeles theater scene and loved so many shows that I saw. I have loved so many shows that I've seen at the Pantages, and I wish I were in LA to see Hello, Dolly! That being said, one review I found interesting was the one where the author of the article states that the show seemed out of date. While I agree that a lot of the content in the show is out-dated, to say it was predictable is a little weird. I feel as though this author thought he was seeing a new show, not a tour of an old Broadway show. This review doesn't seem right, and I don't think it should be paid much attention to.
The World is Full of Wonderful things. But before I start, screw you Daily Bruin, some college ass clearly cannot understand or appreciate the classic comedy and wit of the show. I remember when it was announced that Ms. Buckley would be taking on the role and there was a collective chin scratching as to if she could carry the humor of the show even though there was no doubt about her pipes. Having seen a bootleg of her Act I finale she certainly gets all the right beats and you really feel the weight that the original play had. This shows costumes really seem to glitter, and so does the every changing scenery, but some of the choreography could have been changed up a little. Betty is the perfect person to carry the show on the road, but I hope other stars get a chance to play this role even if it is for limited engagements, I am looking at you Andrea Martin.
