“The Legend of Georgia McBride” at barebones productions

The Pittsburgh Tatler: Unless you are somehow immune to the infectious pleasures of a good drag show, I’m willing to guarantee you’ll be smitten with the barebones’ production of The Legend of Georgie McBride, an exuberantly fun and caustically funny celebration of drag queenery by playwright Matthew Lopez.

Often times for these comments I find myself writing comments on reviews of shows that I know a lot about or that I have seen so that I have something to relate to. But I had never even heard of this show before I clicked on the article. I think this show sounds like one I would really like to see! I think this article may not have been the best review article because it talked a lot less about this particular production of the show and focused more on the actual plot of the show, but it was helpful for me to read because I knew nothing of this show. I wish this article did focus more on the review because all I really got out of it was that the choreography was good, the costumes were sparkly and all created a statement and that the lights were glamorous and did a good job with the changing of location. The plot of this play was what was really interesting for me though because the article talks about how no one in the world of the play has any animosity against drag queens, yet Casey still feels shame. I think this would be a very interesting dynamic to watch play out on stage as well as watching as Casey becomes more comfortable with himself and his new job.
