Cirque to bring its 1994 show Alegria into the 21st century

www.cirquefascination.com: How much Alegria is too much Alegria?

The Cirque du Soleil show, which premièred under the Big Top in Old Montreal in April 1994, has been performed over 6,600 times since then, both during its original Big Top run and then during a 4 1/2-year arena tour. It was seen by 14 million people in 255 cities around the world.

How exciting! I think that Cirque is very smart. You can’t take a show that was performed in the 1994 and say that all of the exact same elements will work for an audience in 2019. I think that they should look at old shows for inspiration and that’s exactly what they’re doing. By taking the strong core elements of the original production of Alegria, they’re about to make Alegria 2.0 be better than its predecessor while having the same strengths of the original show. I also think it’s smart that they brought in new creators for this version. Cirque is just an extremely smart company. However, I love that they will feature the original score. They’re playing off the success of the original performance by keeping the strongest element; the soundtrack. I’m very very excited for this Alegria 2.0, I just have a sneaking suspicion that it will be a good success for Cirque Du Soleil.

I can not wait for Cirque du Soleil to re-release this hit show from the 1990s. Cirque is definitely being very smart in how they are approaching this new release. As Ella said, you can't just take a show made in 1994 and do the same thing in 2019 and expect an audience to interact with it the same way. In the last 20 plus years, society has changed and people have evolved and this show must evolve as well. One of the best parts, however, is that they will be keeping the original score of the show, and just revamping its contents. I have always thought that music can often be timeless and I think, for this reason, keeping the score while changing the show will make this a successful re-release. It allows Cirque to pay homage to the original show while making it perfect for modern viewers. I hope I get to see the show after it opens.
