I’ve never been interested in ice hockey, but I’m so intrigued by the design and engineering in this arena that I’d go to a game just to see it. With lights and projections illuminating so much of the experience in dynamic, reactive ways, the game becomes more than spectating-- it becomes an immersive live entertainment event. I can imagine that the synchronized responses to a scored point would amplify the excitement and intensity of the moment. What’s so important and successful about this system is the way the engineers have managed to disguise all of the projectors. It creates a seamless overall look and design that doesn’t distract away from the actual event that the visitors are paying to see. As someone looking at this from a theatrical perspective, I can appreciate the technology and overall effect of the projections in Little Caesars Arena, but it’s not a facet of the industry that I could see myself getting involved in.
