Patty Jenkins, Greta Gerwig Detail Why Women Make Great Directors

Variety: Director Patty Jenkins has two reasons why she does or doesn’t select a job: One she says is “great,” and one she admits “isn’t.” Jenkins, whose latest film “Wonder Woman” was an instant smash at the box office and praised by critics, shared these reasons at the Women in Entertainment Summit on Thursday.

This article touched on two great perspectives from Patty Jenkins and Greta Gerwig! I have really admired Jenkins' and Gerwig's work a lot (I would really recommend Gerwig's "Mistress America--it's fantastic!), and I am glad to hear their perspectives on women in the entertainment industry. I think that Patty Jenkins' perspective on the two reasons she says yes or no to projects was really important. The fact though, that she has said no to a project because of a possible failure is something that we all should be paying very particular attention to. There needs to be a complete social change of mind and attitude in order for women in general to not be afraid of failure in work, especially in the arts. I think that there should be no question of failure when going into a project, because of the fact that I think that can hinder a person as an artist so much.
