Refik Anadol lights up MSG’s Las Vegas sphere with collages

www.archpaper.com: Earlier this summer a new entertainment venue slash billboard opened on the Las Vegas Strip dubbed the Exosphere. The Populous-designed piece is the “largest LED screen on earth.” Since it opened, Exosphere has projected an unnervingly realistic, blinking eyeball; basketball-themed graphics; and a fireworks show across its surface.

THIS IS SO COOL! I think the fact that we have the technology to create something so incredibly large and profound and artful is insane. I am so impressed by this design and execution. The amount of money that must have gone into this is also really cool! I am curious how much time went into the design, and how the actual execution went. Things like this are so impactful and wonderful and I hope to be able to something like that at one point. Another thing I think is really cool about this design is the legitimate programming and technology behind it. I wish I was able to get into someone's mind who made that and think about they made the idea. Another thing I want to know about this piece is how long it will be there, and how it will do over time. Also how did they install this?

Art forms like these are the most powerful and striking forms of art. It forces people to see it and is accessible to everyone. Putting art back into the environment is very impactful to me, it is giving back in a way. I also think that because it is space-related it is even more interesting– putting us into perspective of how large the world and universe are. I think in times like now it is important to remember that but also the need to take care of our world and environment. I wonder if the artist put this into thought when creating this beautiful piece.
