Jeff Rosenstock Exposes Exorbitant Merch Cuts Taken by Venues
consequence.net: Jeff Rosenstock has broken down the exorbitant merch cuts being taken by some venues on his upcoming North American tour to explain why he’ll have to charge more at certain dates and critique the corporations that control the touring industry.

I think the argument that merch cuts to the venue are negotiable therefore you are responsible if the rates are bad. While that might have been true years ago, the proliferation of Live Nation and companies like it, who will impose a merch cut no matter what on top of charging massive fees, both to the artist and consumer, is changing how artists interact with venues as a whole. Live nation operates a monopoly over many major venues as either owner or operator, this leads them to not care as much on the ideal price of what they are selling, rather they work to extract as much money as possible.
