The article talks about teaching themed experience design, which is something I’m interested in pursuing. I think there is a high level of overlap between theatre and themed experiences in a way that theatre, in my opinion, falls under the broad umbrella of themed experiences, though the boundaries often blur. As the article suggests, being involved is the key to learning these kinds of things. For us, we are heavily involved in productions so we learn about theatre. Although there isn’t a themed-experience degree here at CMU, IDeATe and the ETC have many courses in this subject area that I think are very fun to try out. I think the key to making a good themed experience is to know the story you are trying to sell, and who you are selling it to. Having a creative mind is crucial, but knowing how to get there will take you immensely further.
