nofilmschool.com: In one of the original instances of “robots taking our jobs,” which we strangely don’t hear too much about these days, robo-controlled camera arms have been making video production jobs easier for several decades now. In many instances, they’re continuing to be innovated to become cheaper, smarter, and more dynamic.

Such this is a very cool piece of technology but what about all of the writers who are on strike right now? The film industry is not going to get anywhere without writers, but it could certainly survive without a new cinebot. Why are corporations who clearly have more money than they know what to do with and not paying their workers a fair living wage? That being said, this is a cool piece of technology and I think it will be especially helpful while filming theatrical pro shots because it can be in the house and extend onto the stage to be less intrusive than bulkier equipment. With its extendable arm, it also might be useful in getting more aerial style camera shots which will do wonders in terms of capturing design elements onto video. I think the design area that this is most applicable for is lighting where you have motifs in the design that can only be witnessed from higher points in the house that can now be captured by this type of camera and tripod.
