How a new NOVA theater will go on with the show despite a hit
DC Metro Theater Arts: NOVA Nightsky Theater was preparing for its first-ever production when a tragic accident to one of its lead actresses—who is also a co-founder of the new Falls Church theater—almost derailed the show. She was struck by a car. What follows is a remarkable “the show must go on” storyline.

I am glad this theater found a way to accommodate one of their lead performers after her injury. I can’t help but notice, however, how often and how easily we make these adjustments when someone has a sudden physical injury, while it is simultaneously immensely difficult for someone born with a physical disability to get the accommodations they need, and to get work in the theater. Obviously, this has to do with the urgency of the situation and the need to adapt in order for the show to go on, but it also proves that the difficulty in accommodating an actor with a disability is not the true barrier that prevents theaters from hiring them. Until a disabled actor can “prove themselves” as valuable to a production, they will be assumed to be a greater challenge than they are worth and that is ableist and wrong. I am so glad this theater had a community that was willing to work a little harder to make the changes, but I hope that this is not a one-time exception.
I really liked the part about “theater in a theater is beautiful and wonderful, and is the gold standard” I have never heard it said in that way but they are right. The author is also right when they talk about how daunting, and expensive, it can be to see theater. I like the idea of going outdoors (partly, if I were involved in outdoor theater, it just makes my life harder because lighting equipment and weather don’t love each other. I really enjoyed this article because I’m from Northern Virginia and have never really seen outdoor theater in that area (when you think about theater in NOVA you assume someone is going to the Kennedy Center) Oh and the show just opened! They have performances next weekend. Honestly, I want any excuse to go home (I can’t because I have production ramping up with week…) Maybe I will check out this theater when I go home at some point. It is nice to see that they didn't want to put on the production without their staring actress (it seems like a good community that they have there. Hopefully it isn't a Power/Trip situation (Richard has full control over the production because he owns everything, in regards to money)
