This article makes me worried about the return of theatre after it's shutdown in March of 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, I am also aware that the path back to returning would not be a smooth one. It is also important to note that these two shows are not what Broadway traditionally sees. They use experimental video and media design, along with being shorter than the typical commercial theatre production. It is frustrating to see pieces that push the box Broadway is constricted to not get to live their full life. I am a huge advocate for experimental theatre, especially in commercial theatre. I believe there is no way the theatre industry will survive unless it allows itself to grow and evolve. And I mean grow and evolve past incorporating new technology. Stories and design should be given more room to experiment and play, especially when a bold choice would only benefit the production. I hope the lack of ticket sales does not discourage producers from pursing these types of productions. Unfortunately, I just think they came at the wrong time, but their time will soon come.
