I absolutely love the comparison Rodriguez makes between the collectivist culture of Latin America with the collaborative nature of theatre. Coming from a Hispanic family myself, I was definitely taught to value familial relationships and make an effort to get along with everyone in a large family setting. The quote "It takes a village to raise a child" which is mentioned in this article as some of Rodriguez's words is definitely one of my mom's favorite perspectives. I suppose in theatre the quote could be "it takes a village to put on a production" or even "it takes a village to make a decision because everything can affect anyone." I also find it super interesting that Rodriguez is now teaching Pre-K after actively working on Broadway. It doesn't seem like the most natural transition, but I do have respect for it because he seems to care deeply about anything he's committed to.
