Expo 2020 Dubai releases 2020 sustainability report
blooloop: Expo 2020 Dubai has released its 2020 sustainability report after the United Arab Emirates announced the ‘UAE net zero by 2050 strategic initiative’.
Expo 2020 Dubai, which aims to be one of the most sustainable World Expos in history, surpassed several sustainability-focused targets last year and during the first months of this year.

Expo 2020 in Dubai seems to be excelling when it comes to sustainability and its environmental foot print. The numbers this article talks about really do seem to amaze me. The most amazing is probably the amount of trash that has been diverted from landfills so far. The article states, "90 percent of all waste was diverted from landfill in the same period, an improvement on Expo’s 85 percent KPI." This really is an amazing feat in my eyes due to the number of people who have visited so far. With over 400,000 visitors to date, a lot of trash must be being produced. From food waste and containers, to water bottles and more, people produce a lot of trash, that is just a fact. I am curious how exactly they have reduced the amount of trash going to landfills. It must have something to do with using more recyclable and reusable items. This would allow for the overall decrease in what is going to landfills why still allowing for people to purchase food and drinks.
It is hard to argue with the numbers that this article is able to produce. 90 percent of waste has been diverted from the landfill during this global expo. I do wish the article stated where the waste has ended up instead of the landfill though. This idea of greener live event production seems to slowly be creeping its way into the public eye and starting at a very large scale. While I do not know the exact figure for Expo 2020 in Dubai, it is no doubt that this is a multi million dollar endeavor and in a way that makes the sustainability easier because they are not cutting pennies to try and get it done. Additionally, the article mentions the Director of Sustainability Operations for the Expo which is without a doubt a new position in the live event industry. I will be interested to read about the global impact of the Expo and further down the road, read about how it was all made possible.
