Tony Awards Voting Starts Now. And It’s Going to Be Weird.

The New York Times: The last Broadway season ended, unexpectedly, nearly a year ago. The next one will begin who-knows-when. But deep in this winter of our theaterlessness, a dormant tradition is starting to stir: the Tony Awards.

I never really follow the Tonys quite closely, but this year I feel as if I know even less about them and the shows that are nominated. While the Oscars and Golden Globes can precede much more normally as they are recorded and can be viewed in the comfort of one's home theater does not have this luxury. The format they have chosen is very interesting with the way voting occurs. I am interested to see how the actual presentation is as I watched the golden globes this weekend and honestly the format was rather strange. My mom joked that people will be studying the way awards shows were conducted in COVID times for years to come. I feel as if the Tonys are so centered around group performances etc that I am curious how exactly they will execute the show while trying to maintain a semblance of what it was previously.
