Virginia Louloudes Steps Down from A.R.T./New York After Complaints of Systemic Racism

www.broadwayworld.com: The Executive Committee and Board of The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York announced today that Virginia P. Louloudes has stepped down from her position as Executive Director. Risa Shoup, who was named Interim Executive Director in August 2020 when Louloudes began her­­­­­­ leave, will now continue in the position through July 2021, an extension of 6 months.

I was very interested in this article when reading the title because I hoped they would talk about some of the complaints or ways A. R. T was systemically racist. It didn’t mention anything about it really. This article basically talked about everything that Virginia Louloudes has done as executive director. So I went and found a different article and apparently BIPOC employees reported many incidents of “subversive and toxic behavior” directed towards them and said that Virginia was toxic. The letter demanding her removal has reached 295 signatures. The article talked about multiple incidents and comments that she made which were problematic. There was a lot of other demands like Antiracism training for everyone which did end up happening! I was disappointed that the first article didn’t even mention any of this but instead chose to solely praise her.
