Actors’ Equity Association Releases Second-Ever Diversity and Inclusion Report
Stage Directions: Actors’ Equity Association, the national labor union representing more than 51,000 professional stage managers and actors in live theatre, has released the union’s second-ever diversity and inclusion report, tracking the demographics of how its members are hired for acting and stage management work, and how much they were paid from the years 2016-2019.

They keep on pushing these initiatives, but I think that what is clear about this whole thing is that they have not done enough for the cause. I think that until the results are clear, the work conditions are better, the pay is substantial, the entertainment industry will always have a diversity problem. Its a rooted issue and I think that these reports are just a cover you ass type of band aid to the actual issues that cause the lack of diversity in the industry. I'm sure next year there will be a headline with the words "Actors’ Equity Association Releases Third-Ever Diversity and Inclusion Report", but the fact of the matter is, its not their primary concern just because it is on their radar. I think that until the change is tangible and there is a shift in how POC are treated and hired within all sects of theater, all of these articles will continue to be performative.
