Engineer in fatal 2012 Radiohead stage collapse in Toronto guilty of professional misconduct

CBC News: An engineer who signed off on a Radiohead concert stage that collapsed and killed a drum technician in Toronto eight years ago has been found guilty of professional misconduct, but the findings and the engineer's acceptance of them come too late to provide justice, according to the band and the family of the man who died.

The line "It doesn't get better, it really does not" from the father of this victim just ripped my heart out, I just can't imagine the pain of having to deal with that and suffer through an 8 year legal battle. It is just a sobering reminder that this stuff isn't a game, real people with families and loved ones rely on the work that stage technicians, designers, and engineers do to keep them safe. We talked the other week about 'Big E vs little e Engineering', and now we see this from someone who did fall into that category of 'Big E' professional engineering. With everything we do, the classes we take, the math we can attempt out of the books in our field, I think it is wise for all of us to take a step back and not let our egos or passion get in the way of always making a safe decision, or consulting someone who knows more than we do. It is bittersweet that this has finally come to a legal end, but it won't even end for the family.
