How a Spider-Man musical became a theatrical disaster

BBC Culture: I It’s been 10 years since one of the most momentous nights of Glen Berger’s life. He was already an established off-Broadway playwright and children’s television writer, but on 28 November 2010, a musical he had scripted had its first preview at the Foxwoods Theatre in New York – and it was shaping up to be an international smash.

I found this article very interesting. I think all of us have heard of the spiderman musical and knew how much of a flop it was. A long long time ago i even remember the SNL sketch about it. I never knew how persistent they were with it. I would have thought that Julie Taymour would have been the best choice for something as ambitious and outlandish as this musical. I found it cray that they had stayed in previews for seven months. Also the fact that they hired a new director and added a writer shocks me and I guess just shows how much they wanted the musical to be a hit. I find it disappointing that the technical failures hindered the show and was one of the biggest problems. After having the films of spiderman be popular in years period to the musical they probably wanted to match the movie but had trouble replicating the special effects in the theatre.
