How Ticketmaster Plans to Check Your Vaccine Status for Concerts: Exclusive
Billboard: Monday's news that pharmaceutical company Pfizer's early results on a new COVID-19 vaccine showed a 90% efficacy rate on an initial clinical trial have given concert professionals hope that the business can start mounting a return in 2021. As part of that preparation, Ticketmaster has been working on a framework for post-pandemic fan safety that uses smart phones to verify fans' vaccination status or whether they've tested negative for the coronavirus within a 24 to 72 hour window.

What Ticketmaster is doing is not something new; a lot of places, though not the exact same thing as Ticketmaster, have come up with ways for contact tracing, health verification etc. But what Ticketmaster is able to achieve is the highlight.
Ticketmaster, with its plan to check one's vaccine status and their recent health allows all businesses using ticketmaster to get back to making profit, because now the businesses: concerts, films etc. can make sure that they are not going to be affected by Covid because they will prohibit the entry of anyone who is not healthy. Of course, no plan is ever completely full proof, so we can imagine that there would be mistakes.
But these mistakes will be manageable, hopefully, and it will be through these mistakes that the businesses can go back to work, which is a necessity today, especially as the pandemic continues to rage on.
I think this is a great idea to help keep everyone safe once a vaccine is available and things will start to begin to open up again and begin to operate at larger capacities. I am glad companies like Ticketmaster are starting to plan this out now because that means this system will be implemented and working sooner than it would have been if they started thinking about this once the vaccine is already out for the public. But seeing all of the pushback about masks and the existence of anti-vaxxers, I do think there will be a lot of pushback from people about this because they think that companies have no right to their medical history, and they won’t take the time to understand that Ticketmaster will not have that information they will just know if the person is cleared to go to the event. And if someone isn’t willing to get cleared by getting the vaccine or getting tested then they don’t need to go to a concert. Public health and safety need to be the number one priority.
I understand why everyone is so eager to get back to normal and do everything that we used to before this pandemic hit however I just do not think that is how it will work. This virus is a beast within itself and this vaccine is just the first step in getting back to normal but it does not seem like the only step. Everyone has to still keep in mind all the people that will refuse to get this vaccine due to how new this development is and the amount of time it will take to distribute this vaccine. The vaccine is also not 100% effective, there is a margin of error that will continue to allow this virus to spread. Ticketmaster taking steps to make sure people attend concerts in person safely is great however I think we need to take small and calculated steps towards reopening. This vaccine needs to be properly distributed first and take time to even protect those who are immune compromised and rely on herd immunity. It is very easy to feel as though everything is fine as long as we do not personally have the virus but we also need to think about others during this time.
