Bay Area stage actors, coping with canceled shows, point a way forward in the coronavirus era
Datebook: On March 6, the cast of “The Book of Mountain and Seas” had a 6 p.m. call at New Conservatory Theatre Center to go over notes from the previous night’s dress rehearsal. That night was to be the show’s first preview, its first time before a paying audience. Cast members Brennan Pickman-Thoon and James Aaron Oh were expecting director Becca Wolff to take the floor.

This is a situation that me, along with several of my classmates are going through. A lot of us were at various stages in our individual productions and now with all campus activities struck and campuses shut, we all are a stand still in terms of being a part of a team that brings a production to the audiences for their enjoyment.
I know that this situation is being handled by our faculty, trying to find ways as to how to still be at a place to bring the experience for all the people. For the production that I am a part of, my director has come up with the idea of making the elements and the sensory aspect of the play available to the audiences via digital platform. The idea is to incorporate the various design aspects of the show, the sound, the lights, the costume renderings onto a website, making it accessible for the audiences to get a feel of the way the designers conceived the idea of the play for themselves and how the actors thought of their characters etc.
I am hopeful that even though this is not the traditional way of creating a play, it will still be a wonderful experience for everyone who sees the website.
