It's encouraging that efforts like the ones being made by theatrical unions exist, but in reality it's probably going to take more than the groups dedicated to advocating for workers in the theatre industry advocating for workers in the theatre industry to successfully weather this storm. On the side of this article I can see a link to an article about Netflix donating a million dollars to a fund for entertainment workers. That's the most encouraging thing I've read all day. For this to not have a serious and long lasting effect on the industry after the pandemic is over, we need help from the groups that have the most. Namely, large corporations, and the super-wealthy. News of executives taking pay cuts and similar efforts are very encouraging, and at least to me, surprising, but we need more of that. Otherwise the theatre industry is going to need years to recover from this.
