Light Fields and the Future of VFX
VFX Voice Magazine: Can light fields change visual effects? The answer to that question might still be uncertain, but it is possible they are already changing how immersive experiences are captured and presented to viewers. This is some odd yet normal technology? It seems odd to think of light fields as a technology, mainly because light is the manner in which allows us to see and this extends to cameras as well. So, it feels odd to think of light fields, being a volume of light, as technology. But it is important. Understanding light fields could break through in their uses and using them in different applications may lead to their best uses. This is what makes this article fascinating, they are exploring the uses of light fields in entertainment environments and what they can help accomplish for our entertainment purposes. It also seems intrinsically part of the equation since light fields and camera would appear to be linked, at least we know that light and camera are, in fact, linked. I am curious to see where this research leads and what it lends to the entertainment world. Methods could change, or another tool might just be at our disposal.
