Jesus Christ Superstar is easily one of my favorite musicals of all time. The show has such depth to it and it beautifully welds together the soulfulness and pure energy of rock music while also preserving the pure essence of the bible into one story. I will take every opportunity to watch this show any where I go because it's also a show thats constantly being reinvented and it gives designers a lot to work with in terms of design work and world creating because the bible is your landscape. I will say, the last televised live in concert version of Jesus Christ Superstar is a hard one to beat because it was one of the most well crafted versions of the show in terms of concept and the message that the designs told. I hope that this next version is able to melt all the best parts of Jesus Christ Superstar that die hard fans like me love while also freshen up the show altogether.
I am very familiar with Jesus Christ Superstar as my high school put on a production of Jesus Christ Superstar! It was definitely one of my favorite shows that we did!! I love the music in Jesus Christ Superstar and how it tells the iconic story of Jesus that we all know in a new way. It is amazing that this show has remained a popular classic even 50 years after it was written! It is so powerful that Jesus Christ Superstar feels like a very serious story, but it is also told in the form of a loud and colorful rock concert. And the music is timeless and will always be and edgy and relevant. I think it is really great that Broadway is updating Jesus Christ Superstar and celebrating its 50th anniversary. Hopefully this musical will continue to have a following and be celebrated for many more years to come.
I love the show Jesus Christ Superstar, and I loved the production they did live on TV about a year ago. John Legends vocals were kinda to die for. I think that the concept of taking a well known story, and one with such religious ties, and making it its own thing. I think that if I were more familiar with this show I would be able to pinpoint moments of amazing storytelling in it, but I know that as a whole it is a pretty fantastic thing to watch. This production in particularly exciting, and I hope one day I might be able to see it. I am excited to see how they try to give the show a facelift in the same way NBC did, without copying NBC. I am so happy to see old productions that might not be able to connect to a modern audience being brought back and celebrated like this one.
