We just read "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide" in my playwriting class and it's such a beautiful play! It's a choreopoem that is told through a series of poems by a series of actresses. It's so powerful and has such an interesting structure. Choreopoems are not common and this is really the only widely-produced and significant one. I've looked at pictures of the show at the Public and it looks beautiful! They put the show in the round, which is such a beautiful choice with the subject matter of the play. I imagine it would feel like you, as an audience member, were very close to the characters and their experiences. The show has a lot of movement in it, which many reviewers seem to notice when they mention the choreography, which is really important to this piece! Without such incredible choreography, there's no way the show would be so effective. I'm really happy that this show is still being put on. It's an amazing show and it could have been easily lost in history, but it hasn't, and that's such an incredible thing! I wish I could have seen this production, especially after seeing all of these positive reviews! But, maybe it'll be done more by regional theatres now that there's some attention on this production! I would love to see this done somewhere near us soon!
