I think the concept is cool but I fear that the execution will be flawed. If I am attending a festival, I want to experience the festival, not worry about sending updates and reports to my friends who might be worried. But more important on my mind in reading this article is why did it have to come to this? I remember when I was in middle school being able to road trip with a family friend to a rock concert. It was a really cool experience. The only times I checked in at home was if we made a pit stop, arrived at the concert, left the concert, or stopped on the way back. I think during that trip I made 3 phone calls home. My parents didn’t have to worry about me getting shot by some lunatic from a hotel window. Times were different then. I wonder what changed and why we really need this now. I also wonder if this is some disguise so that big brother can track you more. I hope that is not the case, but in this day and age, maybe that is what many of these apps secretly do.

I actually think this is a really great idea. I am intrigued by the technology and how they are using it to enhance audience-goers' experiences at the festival, and am especially interested in the safety and map features of the app. I had actually hoped that there had been more mentions of additionally safety features the app included, as I think that, whether we like it or not, the world is in a different place now and as we have seen from any of the multiple occurrences in the last 20 years, acts of violence and terror can occur anywhere at any time. I think that the location device is really helpful because it is included with the festival app and doesn't rely on a separate app (like Apple's Find iPhone app). Although they didn't mention it in this way, I actually think that the map function can also act as a real asset in emergency situations as well. From my thesis research on theatrical preparedness, one of the things that makes safety plans effective is specificity. If this map is hyper-detailed with the actual layout of the festival, this will only aid festival attendees should they need to know their way around safely and accurately.
